The BRIGANCE Screens III are short developmental screenings used at scale in Head Start, preschool and kindergarten entry programmes. Unlike almost every other instrument here, they explicitly require a rounded rather than a truncated age, because the rounded figure is what names the correct Data Sheet.
How the BRIGANCE Screens III wants the age entered
Use chronological age rounded to the nearest month: a remainder of 15 days or more rounds the month up, fewer than 15 days is dropped. The rounded age selects the age-specific Data Sheet.
The underlying calculation is the same for every instrument — complete years, complete months, then the leftover days. What differs is which part of it goes on the form. The calculator above reports all four figures at once, so you can copy the one the BRIGANCE Screens III manual asks for without recalculating:
- Years;months.days — the full record-form format, e.g. 1;6.20
- Years;months — complete units only, e.g. 1;6
- Complete months — e.g. 18 months
- Rounded to nearest month — e.g. 19 months (1;7), using the 15-day threshold

- Day remainder: 20 days — 15 or more, so a nearest-month rounding rounds up
